media arts field that support the work of youth media producers. The
archive aims to extend and strengthen service to youth media
organizations through resources that encourage and support building and

Here you will find support information from NAMAC reports and
publications, networking resources; capacity-building avenues and
evaluation tools, methodologies, and instruments.
- Youth Media Survey Database
NAMAC is pleased to announce the launching of the Youth Media Survey
Database as part of our Youth Media Archive. Visitors can search for
information about youth media organizations, which NAMAC collected
through surveying this sector in 2003 and 2005, and see it displayed in
comparison tables. Empirical data about organizations’ size, mission,
staffing, funding, programs and much more is available through this
search engine.
- Evaluation Toolkit
In 2003 NAMAC awarded the National Peer Technical Assistance Project (NPTAP) for Youth program Evaluation. What follows are the field reports from youth media organizations that worked with evaluators to create indicators of success, design and field-test evaluation instruments, pilot specific evaluation methods, tabulate and report results, and create detailed evaluation plans.
- A Closer Look 2003: Case Studies from NAMAC's Youth Media Initiative
Edited by well-known media education scholar Kathleen Tyner, this
voiume showcases the work of a diverse range of rural and urban youth
media programs across the United States. The journal also features a
study of 59 youth media organizations who responded to an on-line poll
about their capacity, missions, successes and challenges.
- 2005 Youth Media Leadership Institute
The Youth Media Leadership Institute brought together twenty
emerging and established leaders in staff positions within the field of
youth media to participate in a six-month institute. It included a
5-day leadership retreat in the spring of 2005; and post-retreat
network-building activities (blogs, listservs, etc.) in the summer and

About the Youth Media Archive
With support from the Youth Initiatives Program of the Open Society
Institute , NAMAC embarked on a three-year Youth Media Initiative in
2003. Focusing on organizations in the media arts field that support
the work of youth media producers, the Initiative’s goals included
leadership training, organizational capacity building and research. In
addition to holding a Youth Media Leadership Institute, the Initiative
published case studies in A Closer Look 2003, held an Evaluator’s
Training Seminar, and provided technical assistance grants.
Designed as
a repository of data and research collective over the three-years of
the Initiative, the Youth Media Archive
aims to extend and strengthen service to youth media organizations
through resources that encourage and support capacity building and
organization sustainability.
