A Media and Arts Town Hall Meeting

Start Time:
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm, Sat (Aug 29)
We are at a crossroads in the history of U.S. media and visual arts, as we witness technological transitions that transform the creation and distribution process, upheaval in the economics of media industries, shifting power dynamics between traditional institutions and more grassroots forms of communication, and a blurring of boundaries between arts and cultural disciplines.

This crossroads presents an opportunity to break down old barriers, increase access to new technologies, and recalibrate the position of arts and media in American society.  Yet it also raises new questions about funding, sustainability, ownership, control, free speech, privacy, access, and equality.

Fundamentally, these are policy questions.

As new leaders in Washington consider their agendas for media, art, and technology, they need to hear from the media and visual arts communities.  This session is a critical opportunity for members to help NAMAC and its advocacy partners understand and clarify our community’s priorities for federal level policy.

Join us to take your seat at the table and contribute your perspective to help develop a media and arts advocacy agenda.  This session is co-presented by our partners at Free Press, with a unique “deliberative dialogue” facilitation process that will involve issue presentations, small group conversations, voting with wireless keypads for instantaneous feedback, and facilitated share-backs between small groups and the larger group.
