Tours: Media & Arts Boston

Get out and see Boston!  Select from the following tours for your Friday afternoon activity.  All tours have limited capacity, so be sure to sign up early for your favorite. Simply click on the name of the tour you would like to join and you will be taken to the registration page. Select the number of tickets you would like, and then click “Register”.

Tickets can also be reserved online at the following links and at the Info Desk in the Plaza Ballroom.

Sales will end 30 minutes before the start of each tour. Tours are free except where indicated. 

Youth Media & Arts Tour

Boston is home to a number of nationally-recognized innovative youth media and arts programs.  This bus tour will bring you to Artists for Humanity, the ICA, and the Community Art Center in Cambridge too see their facilities and hear from youth in their programs about the impact of these organizations.  

Artist Space Bike Tour

Get some fresh air as you tour some of Boston's hottest artists’ studio and gallery space developments on bicycle. Visit the studios of local artists to get up close and personal with the creative process. Stops will include Axiom Gallery, the Bates Art Center, Artists for Humanity and Dudley Square, where a representative from Roxbury Film Festival will discuss Boston’s celebration of films by and about people of color.

*Note – This tour has a fee of $25/person to cover bicycle rental costs.

Production in Boston – WGBH & Rule | Boston Camera

Participants will travel by bus from the Park Plaza to WGBH's new all-digital studios in Boston’s Brighton neighborhood, getting an up-close look at what makes WGBH “crackle with creativity,” to quote The New York Times. The tour will then move to Rule/Boston Camera where participants will tour their facilities and see a demonstration of the latest tapeless cameras and production gear.

Institute of Contemporary Art Tours: 4:30pm / 5:30pm

The tour will offer a closer look at the exhibitions and architecture of Boston's newest museum.  Its multi-faceted exhibition program includes the Momentum series, focusing on the work of emerging artists; the Sandra and Gerald Fineberg Art Wall, an annual, site-specific commission in the museum lobby; the James and Audrey Foster Prize, a biennial exhibition and award for Boston-area artists; and selections from their burgeoning permanent collection. 

The Black Heritage Trail

The Black Heritage Trail® is a guided walking tour that explores the history of Boston's 19th century African American community. Stops on the tour include the Charles Street Meeting House, the Robert Gould Shaw Memorial and the 54th Regiment Memorial.

Art at MIT

The MIT List Visual Arts Center will be sponsoring a walking tour of public art on MIT’s campus. The collection is international in scope and contains works in a wide variety of materials and techniques. Among them are a concrete sculpture by Pablo Picasso and a painted metal wall relief by Frank Stella. 

Boat Tour

See Boston from the water! Enjoy the views of the city from Boston Harbor while being entertained by the traditional sea shanties and folk-tales of acclaimed Boston musician David Coffin.
