Association of Independents in Radio (AIR)
A leader in its field since 1988, The Association of Independents in
Radio (AIR) empowers producers in radio- and audio-based media to
achieve their dreams in a workplace environment that respects and
rewards creativity and professionalism.
AIR provides the producing community an array of professional development programs and resources, including mentoring, training and printed and online publications, as well as conferences and activities that expand networking, advocacy, employment and funding opportunities.
AIR seeks wherever possible to increase general awareness of the significant contribution radio and audio independents make to the cultural life of our 21st-century world.
Our members are some of the best and brightest in the business: a recent AIR survey identified over 300 programs created or contributed to by AIR members. From the well-loved Morning Edition to This American Life, Weekend America, Living on Earth, DNA Files and Jazz at Lincoln Center, independents are a driving force in broadcast media.
AIR members are recipients of many domestic and international awards, including the Edward R. Murrow, the Peabody, the National Federation of Community Broadcasters Golden Reels, the Third Coast International Audio Documentary Festival’s top prize, the New York Radio Festival’s Grand Prize and more.
AIR members can be found living and working in 44 U.S. states and six countries.
