Radio Coordinator
The mission of ZUMIX is empowered youth who use music to make strong positive change in their lives, their communities and the world. Founded in 1991, ZUMIX (www.zumix.org) is an award winning non-profit organization dedicated to youth empowerment and community-building through music, technology and related arts. ZUMIX is not a typical music school. Our goal is to engage low-income youth through music and the arts. We run year-round programs including: songwriting, music technology, community radio, theater, individual music instruction and adult and youth-led music ensembles. We also engage our participants in community-wide arts activities including outdoor concerts, festivals, and open studios. Over the past 21 years ZUMIX has become a vital cultural entity in East Boston and throughout the greater Boston area, serving as a catalyst for positive change – harnessing the energy of youth, the creativity of artists, and the passion of residents, to help people connect, communicate and envision a brighter future.
Program Overview:
ZUMIX Radio is one aspect of our programming. Youth programs operate in three distinct areas: Songwriting and Performance, Instrumental Music, and Creative Technology. We stream online 24 hours a day from a state-of-the-art station in our beautiful, green building. Station programming ranges from independent music, local news, public service announcements, and various genres of music. In addition, we have an active partnership with the local high school to run in-school programming.
