Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking a highly-qualified consultant for the position of Outreach Coordinator for its International Film Festival. 

Description:  The Film Festival Department in Human Rights Watch’s (HRW) San Francisco office is seeking a consultant to act as Outreach Coordinator in order to launch the second year of its “Youth Producing Change” program in San Francisco.  We expect this project will consume two (2) full days a week beginning  January 20, 2010 and be completed as of March 13, 2010. Human Rights Watch’s International Film Festival will celebrate the San Francisco launch of “Youth Producing Change” on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at the Yerba Buena Arts Center.

A program presented in partnership with Adobe Youth Voices, “Youth Producing Change” features short films, videos and animations made by youth media makers from across the globe. Armed with digital cameras, computers and their own boundless creativity – these young people bravely expose human rights issues faced by themselves and their communities.  The program of short films will be presented by many of the youth filmmakers who will be traveling to San Francisco to speak at the festival.

The Outreach Coordinator Consultant’s key responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating outreach to increase intergenerational audience attendance of “Youth Producing Change” film screenings and events.
  • Working with YBCA press staff to contact local independent and grassroots media outlets and youth media organizations in order to secure press coverage for “Youth Producing Change” events.
  •  Distributing outreach materials including flyers, postcards, printed programs and email blasts.       
  • Organization and promotion of screening for high school youth in the SF Bay Area.·         Posting the “Youth Producing Change” events on event listings websites
  • Conducting in-person outreach to organizations in San Francisco and the Bay Area.·         Conducting outreach to encourage youth to attend a youth media press conference on Thursday March 11, 2010 prior to the evening screening.
  • Assist in management of the guest list for the screenings and workshop.
  • Assist in additional film festival outreach as needed. 

And additional tasks during the festival:

  • Assist in preparation of youth filmmakers to speak to press.·        
  • Schedule press interviews.·        
  • Provide local travel support for filmmakers once they arrive in San Francisco.·        
  • Assist youth filmmakers in getting to and from screenings and interviews. 

Qualifications: We are seeking applicants with both demonstrated grassroots outreach and publicity skills and a strong connection to youth media, education and community organizing in the San Francisco/Bay Area.  To be considered, the consultant MUST BE CURRENTLY based in San Francisco. 

Salary and Benefits:  HRW seeks exceptional applicants. The full payment for this contract is $2,100.
