The imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival is currently accepting applications for an EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR (FULL-TIME PERMANENT POSITION).
The annual imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival - the largest festival of its kind in Canada - is seeking a dynamic self-starter for a key executive role. Now entering its tenth year, imagineNATIVE is an international showcase for Indigenous film, video, radio, new media, and installation art. Located in a beautiful arts-focused building at 401 Richmond Street West in Toronto, imagineNATIVE is a community-based festival committed to the development and promotion of Indigenous artists and their work. This is an amazing opportunity to be a part of a successful, growing organisation that has become one of the leaders in Toronto's vibrant independent film festival scene. The role will offer a high profile in the arts and Aboriginal communities and the candidate will nurture and develop key contacts within the film and media industries, as well as both the public and private sectors.
Responsibilities
Operations, Staff and Financial Management
- Write public and private grant proposals in compliance with established deadlines, collect and maintain all data and records required for such grants, in conjunction with senior staff members.
- Manage the organization's financial operations within the budget approved by the Board of Directors, including the overseeing the annual audit and cash flow, managing accounts payable and receivable, issuing petty cash, preparing materials as needed for the bookkeeper.
- Manage staff, department and personnel issues, including supervising, delegating, hiring, terminating, running staff meetings, training and conducting performance reviews in conjunction with the Board and the Personnel Committee;
- Manage and supervise the operations of the organization including fielding external requests from stakeholders, funders and the public, disseminating information internally and externally, and ensuring that deadlines are being met.
- Manage, analyze and update organizational systems to ensure efficiency and accuracy;
- Prepare monthly reports and statements on imagineNATIVE's operations and finances for monthly board meetings;
- Assist the Chair of the Board in developing agenda and materials for board meetings.
Festival Execution and Marketing Plan
- Oversee and ensure effective execution of the festival, including programming, events, community, special projects, and industry initiatives in accordance to annual strategic priorities as set by the Board of Directors;
- Revise and implement festival plan and timelines in accordance to annual strategic priorities as set by the Board of Directors;
- Develop, oversee and implement imagineNATIVE's marketing and promotions plan and campaign in conjunction with senior staff and contractors.
- Supervise catalogue advertising and ad sales in conjunction with Marketing and Communications Manager;
- Oversee and manage the production of the festival catalogue.
Partnerships and Profile
- Develop and increase imagineNATIVE's festival and year-round profile;
- Ensure the implementation and completion of festival projects and initiatives;
- Maintain current and build new relationships with funders and partners;
- Build stronger national and international network of community organizations, media arts presenters and advocacy organizations;
Other
- Represent imagineNATIVE at events and meetings as necessary;
- Participate in board committees as necessary;
- Prepare monthly reports to the board, as necessary;
- Prepare and provide final festival report following the event;
- Participate in job evaluations, as necessary;
- Other duties and general assistance as required or assigned;
Skills and Qualifications:
- University or college degree in areas including: humanities, fundraising, arts administration or commensurate experience in the not-for-profit sector or media industry
- Demonstrated track record in management and arts administration
- High level of professionalism and ability to interface with senior-level professionals
- Excellent communication, analytical, and motivational skills,
- Grant or proposal writing experience; writing samples will be requested for interview
- Experience with strategic planning, goal and target setting
- Ability to work independently and manage a number of projects in a deadline-driven environment
- Knowledge of the landscape of Aboriginal media arts in Canada an asset
